Dr. West will be speaking at 11:45 on the topic of “Cybersecurity Executive Order and What It Means to Government and Industry/IT Management for the Future.”
Dr. West is a career technologist with over 30 years experience in Information Technology and is the current President of MicroTech. He recently retired in May of this year from the Department of Homeland Security where he was the Senior Accountable Official for Risk Management and Senior Advisor to the DHS CIO. He also spent time as the Acting Deputy CIO. During his time in federal government, he was the CIO of the National Weather Service, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Commerce, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). He also spent time in the U.S. Air Force where JB Andrews was his last duty station. Dr. West received an Executive Doctorate in Business in 2014 from Georgia State University with a focus on Cloud Computing.
President Trump signed Executive Order 13800 (also known as the Cybersecurity Executive Order) in May 2017. Dr. West will discuss what the Order means for both government and industry, deliverables, challenges and benefits. He will discuss how the Order has changed the Cybersecurity landscape and what it means to the CISO community. In addition, Dr. West will discuss IT Management and how new technologies such as Cloud Computing, AI, Machine Learning and Data Analytics are changing how we manage IT today along with it’s workforce.
