In 2016, the AFITC returned to Montgomery, Alabama after a 4-year hiatus. This must-attend event reestablished itself as a critical intersection of Air Force IT experts, prominent IT academics, and America’s best cyber security. The Air Force Information Technology and Cyberpower convention offers a full of slate events and activities, with 3 days of speakers, education/training, and an exhibitor-driven trade show that all revolves around the ways we can better defend America from cyber-attacks, advanced persistent threats, and proactively lead in this in this increasingly digital world.

In 2015, the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) was hit with one of the worst data breaches in history, exposing not only personal data but also the security clearance information of nearly 22 million people. Underscoring this was a time lapse of nearly a year from the time of the initial breach until its detection.

Despite the severity of the breach in 2015, 2016 proved to be a banner year for the issue of cyber security. The topic thoroughly dominated the headlines from start to finish, scarring the political landscape and making itself known throughout the public and private sectors alike.

Again in 2017, cyber attacks and threats are shaping events and policy. Continued fallout from 2016 as well as the global WannaCry ransomware attack and the more recent hacking of British MP’s email accounts, underscore the critical importance that cyber security holds in the safety and well being of any nation.

With more than 100 exhibitors and 3200 attendees, the reemergence of the AFITC was a much needed and welcomed event. Now, AFITC 2017 promises to be larger in scale, more well attended, and even more important then ever.
