Vienna, VA, December 8, 2008 – Information Technology Provider MicroTech announces the sponsorship of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight fighter Josh Koscheck in a Mixed Martial Arts charity event – UFC “Fights for the Troops” – being held December 10th, at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC . The event is being broadcast live by Spike TV. Koscheck versus Yoshiyuki Yoshida is the headlining main event in a scheduled nine bout undercard.
Koscheck is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter from Fresno, Calif., and boasts a 13-3 professional record. He is ranked among the top ten welterweights in the world.
MicroTech (Microtech.net) is one of the most highly-regarded and fastest growing network and IT enterprise management providers in the U.S. MicroTech offers Information Technology Systems and Services, Strategic Solutions, Audio Visual Telecommunications (VTC) Design and Installation, Product Solutions, and Consulting Services primarily to the Federal Government, and city, state, and local agencies – managing over 400,000 users daily.
The charity event is raising money for the “Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund,” with the goal to build a Bethesda, MD-based hospital treating soldiers for traumatic brain injuries. Thousands of soldiers from nearby Fort Bragg – home of the U.S. Airborne Corps and Special Operations Forces – will be in attendance.
“We previously sponsored Josh last July at UFC 86 in Las Vegas and in October at UFC 90,” said Tony Jimenez, President and CEO of MicroTech. “We are excited about the upcoming main event that Josh will be showcased in, and look forward to our involvement in an important charity like the Intrepid Fund and the great work they do for American Heroes like our fallen and wounded troops.”
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund has provided close to $60 million in support of the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans.
The 31-year-old Koscheck is a former NCAA Division I champion wrestler and holds a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania.
Koscheck got his start on season one of the Ultimate Fighter series on Spike TV. Though Koscheck may find it hard to shake a seemingly undeserved bad boy image after the early-in-his-career exposure on the reality show, he has proven to be much more than that by making frequent appearances at U.S. military bases and hospitals.
There are close ties to the military and the mixed martial arts world. Some well-known fighters have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Many of them regularly visit military troops and installations, and some branches have even incorporated MMA skills in their training.
As a Veteran-owned small business, supporting the U.S. Military and being an advocate for veterans is also a big part of MicroTech’s mission. “We appreciate Josh’s commitment to the men and women that serve in the Armed Forces,” said Jimenez. “Like the soldiers who defend our country, Mixed Martial Arts fighters like Josh Koscheck never stop battling and never give up.”
