Vienna, VA, November 10, 2008—MicroTech President and CEO Anthony “Tony” Jimenez was named as one of the Top 100 business owners in 2008 by Minority Business Enterprise – a prestigious annual award focused on successful minority entrepreneurs in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
The Top 100 MBE awards were created to recognize those enterprising women and minority entrepreneurs that fuel this nation’s economy through their innovation, sacrifices, and dedication. Business owners like Tony Jimenez are living their dreams and making significant contributions to their clients, professions, industries and communities.
“I’m very gratified to receive this honor,” said Tony Jimenez. “Being a minority business leader is important to me. I launched MicroTech just four years ago. We started with only three people and now we have over 300 highly-skilled employees working nationwide and managing a host of Federal Government contracts, including one of the largest Small Business contracts ever.”
The awards event took place November 6, and was hosted by The University of Maryland University College, the Maryland Governor's Office of Minority Affairs and the Maryland Department of Transportation, among other sponsors.
MicroTech offers leading-edge Information Technology services, business process improvement, strategic consulting, application services, technology solutions and managed services that provide affordable cost-effective capabilities to Global 2000 companies, the U.S. Federal Government, and state and local agencies.
Nominations for the MBE award are received through the Washington DC region's many chambers of commerce, professional organizations, the business community and the general public. A panel of distinguished judges has the difficult task of evaluating hundreds of applications and using a system of scoring to determine the Top 100 MBE list.
Criteria for the award include professionalism in their respective field and contributions to the community. The foundation of MicroTech’s success has been the organization’s commitment to cultivating and developing the best professionals equipped with MicroTech’s high quality standards and solid business processes, comparable to other companies much larger in size and scope, and with more resources.
In July, Jimenez was singled out as a “Trailblazer” and an inspiration to other entrepreneurs by the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense at the National Veteran Small Business Conference. “My philosophy is always to lead from the front, set the example, and never forget the communities that helped you achieve your goals,” Jimenez said. “I encourage my employees to give back to the community by volunteering and MicroTech has a solid record of community involvement among small business owners and in our local communities.”
