Captain David S. Carlson, U.S. Navy, retired, and Senior Vice President of Unified Communications & Collaboration Sales at MicroTech, received the Distinguished Alumni Award from his Alma mater Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) on Friday, September 28. The MSUM Alumni Foundation presented awards to seven of its graduates during its annual Homecoming celebration.

According to the MSUM Alumni & Friends website, the Foundation recognizes and honors its most accomplished alumni. “While many are deserving of recognition,” the site says, “only a select few are chosen each year.”

With an extensive 34 years in the Navy and experience in top level sales and leadership positions within the private and public sector, Carlson is definitely deserving of recognition.

After graduating from the College of Arts with a music degree in 1966, he turned his studies to the Naval War College in Rhode Island, and later studied at the National Defense University in Washington DC. Carlson flew in Vietnam as a Navy pilot, worked under Colin Powell as a special assistant during the planning stage of Desert Storm, and became Director of Operations for the Navy Foreign Military Sales program. He retired from the military in 1994 and went on to lobby for the American League for Exports and Security Assistance and took a job at SigCom, before landing his Sales leadership position at MicroTech headquarters in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

MicroTech congratulates Dave Carlson for excelling not only at MicroTech, but also as a U.S. Navy veteran.
