In his 15th professional fight with the UFC, MicroTech-sponsored Rory "Ares" MacDonald will go toe to toe with the seasoned B.J. Penn in UFC on FOX 5. The Saturday night fight at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington airs live at 8 p.m. EST.
This is MicroTech’s first sponsorship of MacDonald. The stylish 23-year old from Canada’s Tristar Gym was ranked among MMAWeekly’s Top 10 welterweight MMA stars earlier this month, even though his undefeated record was busted by Carlos Condit in UFC 115.
The thing he learned most from that fight, MacDonald said in a UFC 154 Q&A session, is that he shouldn’t carry emotion into the Octagon. His record now stands at 13-1.
The bout against Penn was originally set for late September, but had to be rescheduled due to a sparring accident that resulted in MacDonald needing 38 stitches above his eye. MacDonald stayed out of physical contact for two months, per instructions from his doctor, so he could heal properly.
As a rising MMA star, MacDonald is listed as the second bout of the main card. The main event lightweight title defense stars champion Benson Henderson defending his belt against Nate Diaz.
