MicroTech-sponsored Rory “Ares” MacDonald won against “the Prodigy” B.J. Penn this past Saturday night at the UFC on Fox 5 event. The judges called the match for MacDonald in a unanimous decision. His new record is 14 and 1.
After the fight, MacDonald told reporters that he was going out to dinner with his folks and after that, he planned on taking some time away from the gym to rest. He said he would do this instead of going out with friends, because he hasn’t seen his parents for a few months.
He was 19 years old when he took a big leap out of the nest and moved to Montreal to train with Georges St. Pierre at Tristar Gym. St. Pierre recognized MacDonald’s potential to be a great MMA fighter. He even used him as a sparring partner when he was training to fight Penn. “Rory’s the new breed,” said St. Pierre in UFC’s “Road to the Octagon.”
After the fight, MacDonald called out Carlos Condit for a rematch. Condit beat MacDonald by TKO in 2010.
